Why Foster?

Fostering gives shelter pets a chance to rest, recover, and thrive outside of the stress of the shelter environment. Whether it’s a litter of vulnerable kittens needing around-the-clock care or a dog simply needing a quiet place to decompress, foster homes play a lifesaving role in helping animals prepare for their forever families.

When you foster through Lake Humane Society, we provide the food, supplies, medical care, and support; you provide the love. Even a short stay can help an animal build confidence, experience life in a home, and receive the individualized care they need to succeed. From bottle babies to couch companions, every foster home makes a difference.

How to Get Started

Step 1: Create Your VolunteerHub Account

Create an account through VolunteerHub to join our official volunteer and foster system. This is where you will receive updates, communication, and access to foster opportunities.

Create an Account

Step 2: Complete the Foster Interest Form

Once your account is created, complete our Foster Interest Form so we can learn more about your home environment, experience, and the types of animals you are interested in fostering.

Fill Out Our Interest Form

Step 3: Connect with Our Team

After completing Steps 1 and 2, an LHS staff member will contact you by phone or email to discuss the next steps, answer questions, and help match you with a foster animal that fits your home and lifestyle.

Thank you for opening your heart and home to animals in need!
