Volunteer Program

Lake Humane Society recognizes the importance of committed volunteers dedicated to the care and placement of the unwanted, injured, abandoned, and abused animals of Lake County and the surrounding communities. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to continue to care for, defend, protect, and find loving homes for the animals in need. We thank you for your interest in working alongside us in our lifesaving work as a volunteer. Our mission is not possible without you.

The volunteers of Lake Humane Society support our staff in the operation and care of the shelter facility and the homeless animals awaiting adoption. With hundreds of cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and other pets to care for at once, and our limited staff and resources, we are always seeking volunteers who have a passion for helping animals - and people – in need.

The current volunteer opportunities we have available include: Cat Care – Cage Cleaning, Cat TLC, Dog Walking and TLC, Daily Maintenance Assistance, Offsite Event Representative, Foster Care, and more! Through these positions, you can assist in caring for our animals, improving the environment they live in, and representing Lake Humane Society to the community by promoting our programs and services. We also have various specialized roles for individuals with specific qualifications and skills.

To become a volunteer here at LHS, you must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in the various positions listed above. In order to volunteer with our dogs, volunteers must be 18 years old. Volunteers ages 7-15 that would like to volunteer with a parent or guardian can learn more about our Youth Program by visiting the Volunteer Positions page.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our team as a volunteer, please fill out our Online Volunteer Application to start the process. You will then be contacted by our Volunteer Coordinator to schedule a volunteer orientation. If you have any questions or would like to receive more information on how our volunteers make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care, please email our Volunteer Coordinator. We look forward to having you on our team. Thank you again for your interest in saving lives!
