Cat Showroom Reno

2026 Cat Showroom Campaign

Case for Support

Lake Humane Society has a clear opportunity to improve feline welfare and adoption outcomes through a targeted renovation of our cat showroom. The proposed updates will increase primary housing capacity from 33 to 46 cages while adding cat runs and community spaces, allowing us to humanely house more cats and better support those with behavioral needs. This will reduce stress by minimizing movement to separate meet-and-greet rooms. Holding capacity will also increase from 10 to 14 cages through the strategic reuse of existing units, along with upgrades to the stainless steel housing to improve sanitation for newly admitted cats. All new enclosures will meet the Standards of Care in Animal Shelters established by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, addressing current limitations that prevent some cages from being used for long-term housing. Features such as separate litter areas, built-in shelving, soft-close doors, and improved ventilation will reduce fear, anxiety, and stress while supporting natural feline behaviors, and glass-front enclosures will enhance visibility, safety, and disease control. Together, these improvements will create a more welcoming, less clinical environment that encourages adopter engagement and aligns our cat spaces with the standard of care reflected in our recently updated dog areas.
