Humane Education

Humane education is defined as the teaching of compassion and respect related to animal welfare, environmental, and social justice issues. It teaches relevant knowledge, skills, and commitment to live ethically, sustainably, and peaceably.

The purpose of the LHS Humane Education Program is to help spread awareness of animal related issues and teach about our role in the community and what we do at LHS. Our Humane Education Program promotes kindness and respect to all living things and encourages safety for children and adults when dealing with animals. We encourage our community to get involved in helping us help animals in Lake County. We provide valuable lessons on animal body language and how to behave around animals, which can help create a safer community for both animals and humans.

Our shelter can accommodate small groups of 10 or less. Programs scheduled at the shelter will include a tour of our facility. We also provide off-site programs for larger groups. The following is a list of our currently available Humane Education Programs:

  • Dog Safety & Canine Body Language – ages 4-7
  • LHS Programs & Services – all ages
  • Career Day – Humane Agents – over 12 yrs

To schedule one of the above education programs at LHS or to schedule a speaker to come to your organization, please call (440) 951-6122 ext. 105 or e-mail our Chief Humane Agent at
